Day 2: Go on a Vision Walk

Yesterday you wrote out your conscious, top-of -the-mind ideas about where you would like to go in your life; now take another pass at it. This time, access your deeper, intuitive mind - your connection to God, or the Inner Guide.

It's hard for most of us to set aside thinking and doing. We are busy people, involved in what's going on and getting important things done. And rationality is the flavor of the day... but we all use intuition or inner knowing, too, whether we acknowledge it or not. Some of us experience it in the gut, as butterflies, or tingling on the back of the neck, or as a flash that takes the breath away. Or it can be a guiding voice, or light.

Today you will practice opening to this guide intentionally, by putting yourself into a relaxed, trance-like state, and seeking a leading of the spirit with an open mind and heart.

  • Craft a clear intention: Say something like, "Today I call on the Spirit of Love to guide me in the next days of my life, and ask Where am I going in this life? Where is this path to the future leading? What is my next step?"

  • Relax, breathe, walk or float: With each breath, allow your awareness to deepen and become softer. No stress. No rush. Walk or float in an imaginary void (or you might feel the need to stand and walk around your actual space, or move to the beat).

  • Go through a door: When you feel ready, see yourself moving through a doorway or opening into another space. Take time to settle there, in a safe, dark, warm place.

  • Open to messages and gifts: You might get a vision, or thoughts, or just a feeling.
  • Give thanks and return: Saying thanks out loud is a how you acknowledge the reality of the gift. Then, turn around and exit the way you came in.
  • Journal: In about 15-minutes, or when the music ends, get up and quickly write (or draw) in your journal the images and thoughts that came to you, without editing or judging.

If what you saw or felt confused you, don't worry- these might be symbolic messages. You can let them float around in your brain for the rest of the week, and we will review them later.

If this seemed like a meaningless activity, or it didn't work for you at all, I encourage you to give it another try when it comes up next week. However, some of us just need longer than 15 minutes to go deep enough to access an Inner Guide. If you suspect this is true for you, then make an extra effort to give yourself more time and go on a longer vision walk.

  1. I didn't do this this week. I see it as a good practice for helping clarify my values and priorities and will try to come back to it but this week I'm very busy and clear on my priorities (planning mom's 80th celebration in between busy work week) and decided to skip it.
